Its been quite a weekend. I kicked it off by watch the E3 Halo 3 Announcement Trailer. You almost have to appreciate the guys at Bungie. This announcement is technically the first official confirmation that Bungie will be making Halo 3, although apparently their copy editor has a sense of humor about it:

Nobody saw it coming. Halo 3! Who knew? For the last year or two, people have speculated about what our next project was and surprisingly, in all that time, not a single person guessed that it would be Halo 3. Not one.

In the meantime I'm happily speculating on what the next adventure for the Master Chief will hold, but since the trailer has 2007 on it, I'm not holding my breath.

In other news, ultimatepsi's computer bit the big one this weekend, and DIAMOND has found a new role as her workstation. Rumors place her conspiring with extraterresrials to solve her lack of machine.

I've also been playing Rise of Legends, which is everything I was hoping it would be and more. Non-linear campaigns with plot-driven scenarios, boss battles in an RTS, and incredibly organic artwork. Who could ask for more?

Finally, I achieved Master Life Goal #17, and I have all of TNG on DVD. Unfortunately, I think a 130+ hour TUB would be a bit much.

Their nice machines, although not really worth the expense unless your going for top-of-the-line parts or close to it, since you to pay extra for things like customer service and warranty. On the bright side, they come with almost nothing installed but the basic OS so you can configure them fairly hassle free. They do tend to sound like jet engines, or at least my monster does.

Re: Alienware

I don't know about that, comparing them to a comparably-equipped XPS shows the Alienwares coming in hundreds of dollars below final tag price of the Dells. Don't even get me started on IBM's high-performance machines.

Re: Alienware

Since you're both technically literate, you might get the best deal out of rolling your own. Check out the budget box in the Ars System Guide: April 2006 edition

Re: Alienware

Yeah, but there are a number of mitigating factors, number one being that ultimatepsi and I pretty much run a high-mobile shop now -- everything is a notebook, which puts significant constraints on the construction strategy. Also, neither of us is qualified to do the heatflow analysis Alienware does on their notebooks.

Re: Alienware

Forgot about the whole mobility thing.

I'm experiencing a sudden pang of jealousy.

We have almost all of TNG, and we have more than I've seen. Every summer, I get closer to seeing the whole thing. I think we're one season off, if you don't count the Hong Kong copy we bought by accident.

I highly suggest the 130+ hour TUB, although not in consecutive hours... Something like the B5 TUB, where it was like 4 hours a day each week until completion, would probably work better. I would be very interested in attending, and volunteer my house if you need a place, although I understand that people may not want to come all the way out here.

I'm also curious what Master Life Goals 1 through 16 were...
