I'm Not Bill Gates, I'm Tech Support

For the record, although I'm a "consultant" according to my job title, for the last six months I've really been glorified Technical Support for the breadwinners of my firm. As such, I have been issued plane tickets and hotel stubs in place of telephones and a desk, but even at this level some of the classic problems remain. For example, today I am in New York, once again, to solve a problem that was adversely affecting our team all of last week. Today I arrived, and nobody can reproduce it. As soon as the technician shows up, the problem runs away and hides. Unfortunately for me, we are now significantly beyond the point of "call back if the problem recurs", and on to the point of "Well, problems that go away by themselves usually return by themselves, so climb in there and find it and fix it!". Sigh.

i'm not available this time (unless you're in town until Friday), but next time, make sure you tell me, and we make plans far in advance!

This wasn't even a candidate for meeting -- I'm on the 1700 train out today.
