[PUBLIC] RMV Address

Back on June first, like a good little Massachusite, I registered my change of address with the RMV. I never got a stick mailed to me, which has required me to deliver an explanation on a few occasions (not the least of which was getting fingerprinted at the Waltham police station), so two days ago when I got my registration renewal application at my new address, I knew my change of address had gone through, and I just hadn't gotten my sticker. I went back to my confirmation email, and I found the following passage:

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles no longer mails change of address labels.

You may use any plain label with your address handwritten on it as long as it fits in the designated area on the back of your license or ID. You may also use a pre-printed address label such as those you use for your return address on your bills, etc.,. You may also attach a label to your vehicle registration(s).

Really? Seriously? I pay $50 a whack for registration every two years and another $50 a whack for my license every five years, and you can't be bothered to mail me a sticker when I move?

It was for a security audit.

re: SRSLY?

Totally. If I wasn't renewing my license next month anyway, I'd be pissed. I don't *own* any Address Labels.

They told me this when I moved. I've been carrying around a utility bill whenever I need to prove my residence.

I spend a lot of time being angry at the RMV for the way a learner's permit isn't an ID, even though after filling out an application for a permit there is no additional paperwork to get a license.

Really? I never had problems using my permit as identification anywhere.

A long time ago, my dad used to put handwritten labels on the back of his license. Those days are back.

I don't think the Registry ever does any verification of the address given to them, so it wouldn't make sense for any organization to rely on that information printed on a license anyway.
