[PUBLIC] Festival of the LARPs

So this weekend was Festival of the LARPs at Brandeis. I had a good time there.

On Friday night I played breakinglight11's Alice. It is currently up to replace Crazny Oktobr as my favorite 4-hour. The game was solidly written, and we had a cast that really knocked it over the fence. The way the game went down was outright epic. The good guys forced the villain's hand at the beginning of the game, and halfway through there was a climatic line battle between Good and Evil, and Evil won big, basically destroying all of Good's combat assets in the field. Most of the rest of the game was Evil running around being Evil, and Good's few survivors ran about trying to pull their collective bacon out of the raging, raging inferno. In the eleventh hour, a key party who had remained neutral decided to throw in with Good, and tipped the balance as it need to be, and the sole Good survivor of the great line battle returned to slay the Big Bad and save the day with only 2 minutes left on the clock. Truly remarkable.

Saturday I participated in the run of A Midsummer Night and the Livin' is Easy, our Iron GM LARP from Intercon I a few weeks back. I ran it again Sunday, and both runs went better than the first one, at least from my viewpoint. Alas, I am not a writing GM, nor am I a run GM, but I have found my niche and, while its not terribly exciting, it lets me NPC without having to worry about screwing up the game.

Saturday night I played in Miskatonic Class Reunion 2000, which was a lot of fun. I beat down a crypt monster with a dust bin, and perhaps doomed the human race to living under a certain Elder Being's thumb, but I count it as a success. Again, a lot of fun. Thanks to zrealm and his GM staff for putting up with me.

Sunday was Un-Conventional Odyssey, a horde LARP I had heard very good things about, and was being run by lightgamer, about whose GMing ability I was curious. I generally don't much care for Horde LARPs, and this was better than most I have played in, but still not very compelling to me. Even so, I had fun with it, and briefly ran around shirtless screaming for my non-existent dead minions to eat the cast characters.

Immediately after game wrap for Midsummer's second run, I had to drive to PA, so I didn't get to go to Dead Dog, which I regretted, but I still had a lot of fun this weekend. Thanks to everybody there!

re: Alice

Sounds about like my run, except Neutral was never able to figure out how much their allegiance was worth it to Good.

Ironically, it was most of your minions I was hanging out with in most of the early game. But when you started murdering all of my toys and especially the ones who could protect them, that became a problem...

It was epic, and made the role pretty much one of my ideal roles. So, thank you for that. :)

I am so delighted to hear you say that. Your opinion means a lot to me, and I couldn't have been happier with you in that role. :-) Thanks so much!

You'll have to let me know when the next run of Midsummer will be.
