[PUBLIC] Return to Dallas

I once again find myself in Texas. This time, I blame witticaster. I was enjoying a period of relatively low travel, staying at home and working remote, when last night she pipes up with "I really thought your job involved more travel than you seem to do." The next morning, I get a call from consulting services, telling me I'm off to Plano, TX, later that afternoon. Whilst not entirely unexpected, I thought I had dodged this one.

Dallas continues to be a navigational nightmare, which utterly eludes me. The city is built on flat plains, but still has some of the most byzantine highways I've ever seen. Whole highways simply head off on an exit ramp from lesser roads, with only a single sign of warning before they split off. I ended up driving down a tollway tonight, but there was no toll booth at the end, just the transponder gantry. I don't expect my rental car was equipped with a transponder, so I'm not sure entirely how that's going to work out. Really, I believe anybody who puts up a toll road with no toll booth deserves whatever they get.

Though I of course deny any fault in the matter, the idea that I have such power pleases me.
