[PUBLIC] The Doom Flu Continues

It seems my current illness is setting my sleep schedule now. I fell asleep around 1930 last night and awoke at 0140. At 0300 I finally gave up and got up. Well, sort of. I still haven't gotten out of bed save to take some TheraFlu.

Those of you who have known me for a long time know how bad things need to get before I'll voluntarily medicate of my own initiative. But taranhero suggested this powder mix that is supposed to control symptoms, and yesterday I finally decided it was worth it to be able to walk across my home without worrying I was going to topple over from general weakness and aches. The stuff definitely stopped the symptoms, and for a time my temperature was even normal (its been in the 101-103 range for days now), but the dose I took at 0300 today does not seems to be doing as well for me. The stuff tastes truly awful, and requires you to drink 8 oz. of the mixture in 15 minutes, a task I can just barely accomplish without setting off my gag reflex. I tried adding several teaspoons of sugar to this morning's dosage, but so far only a grapefruit juice chaser seems effective. Which reminds me, I'm down to less than 8 oz. of grapefruit juice remaining. I need to procure more.

If this is indeed Influenza, I'm told it could last from 3 to 14 days. We're in the early morning hours of Day 4 now, so arguably it could slack off any time, but I have a feeling I've got at least another day left on this. Here's hoping.

Wow, John got sick. I assumed that you were better when your last post wasn't followed up, which was clearly silly cause I'm looking at the follow up now. I don't know how operational you have to be (if you're working from home or anything) but research has shown that reducing fever can extend illness, so when I have the option of staying home under the covers I avoid taking anything with a fever reducer in it. Unfortunately that includes most of my painkillers. Its a trade off between a longer, but less miserable illness, or a shorter but horrendously painful one. Hope you feel better soon in any case *Hugs*

Yeah, suppressing the fever extending the illness is just common sense, and I normally avoid doing so like the plague, but yesterday I literally was nonfunctional, and it was a tremendous effort just to stand. It made the choice pretty clear-cut.
