[PUBLIC] Of Caffeine and Ice Cream

Last year I had an extended tour in Utrecht, the Netherlands. During that stay I throttled back my caffeine intake to the point that by August of last year, I drank almost no caffeine. I've been continuing this dietary restriction less consciously since then, and now caffeine rarely breaks into my diet in any significant quantity. In fact, as I discovered just the other day, even a single 8-oz can of Mountain Dew makes me nauseous at this stage in the game. That became a problem today, because I suddenly had a great hankering for a Root Beer float.

Off I go to Price Chopper, where I am delighted to discover A&W Root Beer is caffeine free. Score one for the good guys! So now my preferred method of staying cool this afternoon has been alternating scooping Edy's and pouring A&W into a glass and then making a concentrated effort to reduce the amount of goodness in that glass through ingestion.

It occurs to me that if I'm not careful I'll make myself sick anyways by sheer sugarshock, but that's a much better reason to endure the blah.

What possessed you to think that root beer (typically) had caffeine added to it?

Because Barq's has caffeine, and that's the Root Bear I have the most experience with, being the one that's available at WPI?

Root beer comes decaffeinated by default. That's why Barqs was introduced as, "The one with bite!" It's afaik the only caffeinated root beer.
