Magic Offline

So Wizards of the Coast tried to launch the Darksteel expansion on Magic Online, and it killed their servers right proper. A constellation of managerial errors has transferred the entire user base to the beta test server. Suffice it to say, the beta server is not up to the task, and the level of service is truly staggering. More interesting, though, is the article they've posted on the circumstance.

That's really funny. Do you think it was a hothead "Our Beta Server will work just fine and provide an entertaining Darksteel experience" lead programmer who pushed through the decision, or really stupid PHBs at Hasbro?

Given the programmers are working multiple consecutive 16 hour days under what is no doubt extreme stress both technically and politically, I'm sure that it was a managerial decision -- any coder or software eng in his right mind would've rolled back the changes and kicked the release back a week.

Of course, MTGO has never rolled back an update or release, which raises the question of whether or not they have the capability.
