[PUBLIC] Of Insects.

One of the big problems with living in a country in which there are canals dug almost everywhere and water is a major means of transitting the country, is that there's a lot of sitting or slow-moving water all over the place. I'm currently experiencing the sheer numbers of insects that hatch in the spring and summer here is suburban Utrecht, and it is an impressive quantity. Its not as bad as Florida, but then again, we're a couple dozen degrees north of them here.

I was, as a result, being eaten alive for a few days before I decided that the mosquito and God-knows-what-else bites were not worth the fresh air and closed my hotel room door/window thing. Now I'm existing almost solely on recycled air, both at work and in the hotel. Air conditioning, for reasons I've never exactly nailed down, makes me sleepy. Which is great when I want to be sleeping, but now that its more or less on constantly while I'm at work, is affecting my productivity. So I'm wondering if its a good idea to go through the hoops necessary to get a window opened in my work area, some 5 stories above the ground. So tell me, does anybody happen to know the service ceiling of a mosquito?

You could get one of those mosquito nets to sleep in, the kind that are hung above your bed. Like in those african safaris.

Are window screens unheard of in that area?

They are, in fact, unheard of. I've not seen a single instance anywhere I've been.

Also, this comment does not appear to have triggered any notification mechanism, either email or internal to LiveJournal. Was that your doing, or an oddity of the LJ servers?

Perhaps you've found a new business opportunity.

Any lack of notifications was not due to any intentional action on my part.
