Commencement 2006

Ah, another class of WPI students shoved out the door. Nearly a thousand new degrees were conferred today at the Graduation, and I heard every last one. The ceremony was followed by a traditional Wedgerat gathering at the traditional place, and a delicious order of Nancy Chang's. We retired to the Founders suite, where after abusing Micah for our amusement, we found to our considerable joy that the old Airhog Rocket Launcher still worked, and out to the Gordon parking lot we went to play with it. To my considerable surprise, the half-broken rocket launcher kept six grown men amused for 2 hours, at which time we went to the local Honey Farms, purchased a set of balsa wood planes and some kite twine, and amused ourselves for another hour trying to launch balsa wood planes on the backs of the rockets. About a quarter of the time only part of the aircraft payload left, leaving behind a puff of balsa and several key structural members, such as horizontal and vertical stabilizers. Only once the whole night did we successfully get an aircraft to climb to apogee aboard a rocket, detach, and fly, but then, that wasn't really the point.
