Beaten Down By Pollen

Around 0600 this morning I was flying a 747, testing the viability of Logan's new 5,000-feet-up promenade, built so that in the event of an incident on take-off, the passengers and crew of the jet could simply step off onto the walkway. Around this time my alarm was trying to wake me up, but I was having none of that. Around 0610, the universe's background music, which at the time was some 70's rock of unknown description, cut out, and Botany Bay started playing. I thought to myself, "John, you're not checked out on the 747, and this is a dumb idea, and that's the wake-up music. Time to get out of bed and off to work." So I opened my eyes.

ERROR 306

What the hell was this? I frantically looked around.

ERROR 306

WTF? After a few seconds, I realized both eyelids were sealed shut with sleep. Well, damn. It was around this time that I realized how little effort one is able to exert on one's eyelids, and I didn't want to augment them as the thought of tearing my eyelids in half gave me the heebee-geebeeies. So after about a minute of clawing, my left eye got just open enough to give me a blurry picture of my clock (which, although less than 3 feet away with 6-inch-tall numbers, was barely readable), telling me I had overshot my first alarm. Oh well, that's what second alarms are there for.

Around 5 minutes later, I finally freed my left eyelid enough to have it open far enough that I could operate. The mirror came in quite handy in getting the right eyelid open. Of course, by the time I cleared those two issues, I realized my throat was all kinds of pissed at me, and I had already exceeded my daily recommended dose of mucus. Now, after a 30-minute hot shower, I'm feeling a bit better, but this is going to be a long day. Cheerio!

You mean the eye-thing, or the general allergies-sucking-the-life-out-of-me thing?

The throat thingie. Both Rick and I got it (me after him) so I'm assuming it's some sort of bug rather than general allergies.

Nah, I think its (in my case) that the pollen count is going beserk in New Jersey -- as long as I'm locked in my windowless room deep inside my office, I'm fine, but if I go our or utilize my windows at the hotel, things go downhill pretty quick.
