2 Rules of GMing Table Top

1) Don't railroad your players into a plot line.
2) Always keep the game moving forward down that plot line.

Each of these is the most important.

unless of course you're in a one-shot and trying to avoid making it a three-shot - then, by all means, start railroading!

Corollaries to Rules
1a)Always give them the illusion of choice.
2a)Side-trips are ok, as long they're even more carefully concealed ways to get back to the main plot.

Served me well in the Star Wars one-shot. No matter what they did, they would have ended in the same place. It was just a matter of how they got there. Did this arise from a recent problem in your Mechwarrior game?
