CVL-1 Susan Ivanova

The last 20 or so days, I've been playing a PBEM game of Space Empires IV with sirroxton. I'd forgotten how much fun the game is, not just for the mechanics and creativity it involves, but because of the stories it creates. The Bronze Imperium in this game has been slowly rising to power, allying with the other races, and gradually researching new technologies. There are only really two or three other interstellar powers in the game, and several races still confined to their own starsystems. The real story, however, has been of my first fleet carrier, CVL-1 Susan Ivanova, which rolled off the production lines just in time to use its airwing to repulse a surprise attack by enemy forces looking to destroy my shipyards. Since then, its been sailing around my empire and my allies', repelling the evil forces of High Priest Roxton using its wing of trusty F-1 Mosquito fighters. After two refits, she's still equipped with the most modern technology available, and forms the core of my most effective battlegroup. From scrambling to stop the destruction of Olympus Shipyards to blocking an advance on my ally's holdings in Langley, the rest of the game as seemed to be forming the backdrop for the exploits of this one unit and her escorts, as they Save The Galaxy(tm). Normally, I'd say that this effect is perculiar to this particular match, but it happens in every multiplayer game of SEIV I play. If you haven't already taken SEIV for a test drive, I really recommend you do.

Hey, the P'arq Commonwealth comprising a violent, bloodthirsty race headed by a power-hungry religious pontiff does NOT mean you can call me the bad guy, you Modernist hippie!
