Redemption!

Just a short while after I mortally wounded my precious drive of All Things John (1997-2003), I have recovered it, thanks to a handy piece of software called Partition Table Doctor 3.0. This package ran through my disk, found the wreckage of my partition, and using those pieces put it back together again, whole. I am beside myself with relief, and now Partition Table Doctor has the coveted Brewer's Unconditional Endorsement, an award bestowed on those people, places, and things that save me from my own intergalactic stupidity. The demo version was rather clever, too. It analyzed my disk and announced that yes, indeed, it could fix it, proceeded to document the changes it would make, and then promptly asked to me to buy the full version in order to actually resurrect the disk. It was the fastest decision to blow $50 I've every made. I ponied up the money, downloaded the software, ran the repair routine, and presto-chango-alakazzam, my disk was back, and moreover, in the basic format I wanted to get it into when I started this whole ordeal. This little toy is going permenantly in my bag of tricks, and I recommend it to anyone who both has Administrator rights and is known to make a boo-boo every now and again.

Backups!

*Everyone* needs a disaster recovery plan, and needs to test it.
