To A or not to A...

For Christmas, ultimatepsi got me a beautiful Polar Lights 1/350 model of the starship Enterprise to build. I've been prepping to actually construct it, but I've run across an interesting problem. The kit contains parts and decals to make either NCC-1701 Refit or NCC-1701-A. I'm not sure which way to go on this; while the 1701-A is more detailed and generally cooler looking, the 1701 is the one that actually did stuff other than crossing the Great Barrier and getting clocked in the forward saucer by a cloaked Bird-of-Prey. So, I pose the question; which is cooler?

Poll #645383 Refit or A?

Which version of the Enterprise should I make?

NCC-1701 Refit (TMP-ST3)
5(41.7%)
NCC-1701-A (STIV-STVI)
7(58.3%)

Go with "more detailed and generally cooler looking".

I'm with jen's reasoning, and wow, as of right now, i hope you wern't going with the results only. And remember, just because it's on a shelf doesn't mean it has the properties that the origional had...so go with shineys.

Well, why not use all the detail work from the A, and then apply the decals for the Refit? They totally changed their minds about all sorts of things from the original series into the movies (Klingon D7 Cruisers, etc), so why can't you retroactively add some details? :)

Well, the decals are the whole debate. The actually construction is the same -- the A just has a dozen or so more symbols on it. The aztecing and coloration of the hull is identical for both ships.

It the technique used to get that detailed box shaping on the hull, that looks like plating all over the ship. See Example.

Would you rather have a nice painting by a well-considered 20th century artist or the first printing press ever invented? Go with the Refit. ;-)
