It Never Rains In Southern California

So here I am, on station in the Valley. The San-whosa-wotsit Valley next to LA. I'm starting to understand why so many people are willing to brave horrible tectonic death to be here -- the weather is crazy. Its like the Anti-New England. Its 80 degrees and sunny right now. I'm told it doesn't change much from that, ever. Our contact told us that it didn't rain the first eight months he was here. Its not even like people acknowledge it, even. Apparently, whether just doesn't enter the equation in these parts. Fascinating.

On the plus side, the project is turning out to be a spectacular success. The IT department here has given us a server that dwarfs most entire migration systems I've worked with so far, and they had 70% of the data already loaded when we got here. If it weren't utterly impossible to get a plane ticket today, I might've come home tonight. On the plus side, I'm assigned back to Cape Cod next week, so I get a long weekend. That is very, very good.

Do they have issues with not receiving rainwater? If we didn't get rain for 8 months the vegetation would be all dead, and there would be limited drinking water, I'd think.

Yeah, its crazy. They have water pumped in from the Rockies to the west, along with purifying capacity for the ocean. And they need it; EVERYTHING has sprinklers, up to and including the median strips on the highways.

So basically, it's Hell, but with better lighting? :P

Yay for having stuff going right at work, anyway.
