Oh, For The Love Of...

Kansas Redefines Science.

"...[The] board rewrote the definition of science, so that it is no longer limited to the search for natural explanations of phenomena."

That's... interesting.

*shrug* I dunno.

The concept of "Natural" is an artificial construct :-D

"Natural" just means that your explanation correlates with reality. Your beef should be with the word "explanation," which requires a basic causal model. It's very difficult to model God. :)

Whoa, we're not taking causation for granted now?

Sorry, I didn't mean a model for causation. I meant a model that used causation. :)

You can model physics. You can model biology. You can understand that social behavior comes from those models, and that societal systems can be modeled from those models. But you just can't model God.

Well, maybe you can, but anyone who has succeeded has been slaughtered by holy lightning.

I've been hearing about this for months now, it drives me CRAZY. My colleagues seem amazingly undisturbed considering we all have the word Evolution in our job titles, oh well. Rio Rancho, a suburb of Albuquerque, is now teaching intelligent design, I feel bad for those poor teachers having to do that.

Can someone please explain to me how a board has the authority to rewrite the definition of SCIENCE? Well they're at it why don't they just rewrite the definition of "mentally sound", because I don't think these people would pass that test based on the current definition.

They redefined Science as interpreted by the Schools of Kansas. The Department of Education has the authority to do things like that.
