Half-Life 2

Today I finished Half-Life 2. All told, it was about 10-12 hours of gameplay. It had lots of toys to play with, and is clearly an excellent engine, but there was so much more to cover story-wise that didn't make the game it makes me want to cry.

Such is life.

Makes you wonder how different it would have been if it hadn't been hacked...

I don't think the content was affected by the hack -- it was more the Steam code they were really concerned with. The only bummer is that they didn't take the hint and kill Steam dead.

I thought they had to make totally different levels and stuff.

To my knowledge, and its been a while, it was just the source code for HL2 that was stolen, not the content data, and even then the really valuable part of it was the encryption algorithm and keys for the Steam distribution system that made the whole thing work. Reworking the content would make little sense -- it simply didn't matter that much if there were plot spoilers. The real money was in the encrypted distribution that prevented you from playing the game when you weren't attached to the internet and talk to Valve.
