Otakon 2005

This weekend I spent at Otakon 2005. It was great fun, if somewhat pricey, and I walked away with DVD copies of Captain Tylor and Excel Saga. Oh yeah, and a pound and a half of fudge. While I was there I got to see some really great AMV's, which I should have with me Friday, and also a selection of movies, including Ghost in the Shell 2 and Howl's Moving Castle. The latter was extremely good and I'd recommend it to all without reservation.

While I was gone, the world went silly again. After nearly ten years, San Francisco declined the opportunity to host the USS Iowa, citing opposition to the war in Iraqi and military policy towards gays. A staggering thought, that a city would turn down an attraction like that, especially having already foot the $3,000,000 bill to have the behemoth towed from Rhode Island to California.

Governments often make stupid decisions. That's why I'm not that opposed to things like filibusters: they keep the government from messing things up even more.
