2005-1 Post-Mortem

Things I learned running 2005-1:

  1. Don't let Brilliant-Planner type players play low-INT characters.

  2. Horribly unhelpful NPC's are fun. For the GM at least.

  3. You don't know a characters true alignment until you directly threaten their lives.

  4. Subjective gravity is fun.

  5. Never, ever, ever go back for the gold.

  6. A bear makes a better loader than gunner.

  7. A PC in a stressful situation is more likely to botch than they otherwise would be.

  8. Setting a ship on fire is only one of many, many ways to destroy it.

  9. Given virtually unlimited resources, the party still will argue for almost an hour about how to abandon a mortally stricken vehicle.

  10. Don't use material directly out of a sourcebook at least 1 PC has read cover-to-cover.

Has 2004-1 been outdone in respect to #8? If so, I must hear this story.

Basically, at one point the party had to figure out how to destroy a portal they couldn't remove from an airship. Most of their solutions involved destroying the airship itself, since it was on a rather inaccessible plane. That said, they also had an enormous amount of magic at their disposal, up to and including what they suspected to be but never tested, A Deck of Many Things. They ended up coming up with many solutions to the issue of destroying the ship by magical means, but for the most part lacked a way to do it that wouldn't kill everybody aboard as well.

Well, the ship came with a built in auto-destruct mechanism.

Sounds like an interesting game. I'm very sorry I missed it. OTOH since I slept until 6:30 pm I doubt I would've been awake enough to contribute had I shown. Sounds like you managed ok without me though, that's good.

(Imply that you're willing to (allow the destruction of the prime material plane in order to save your own hide)) just once and you get such a horrible reputation....

Hehe. I've heard the story straight from the bear's mouth.
